The Tesla Model S will very soon be rivaled by an all electric variant of the next-generation Volkswagen Phaeton.
Despite Volkswagen’s ongoing diesel emissions scandal, the German marque recently announced that the next-gen Phaeton project would survive despite model cutbacks. The purely electric model will also include a selection of advanced connectivity and assistance systems alongside an impressive electric range.
It is also reported that the electric Phaeton will borrow its drive system, batteries and platform architecture from the impending Q6 e-tron. In the Q e-tron, that system consisting of two electric motors driving the rear wheels as well as a single electric motor powering the front wheels, resulting in a total of 429 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
